An intriguing site: where else can you connect with a plethora of image libraries, particularly of the specialist and obscure variety, AND find out the latest stock industry news? Stock Index is produced in London by Robert Prior, who’s been in the stock picture business since roughly the reign of King Edward VI. The “Industry News” page is invaluable if you want to stay current on this volatile business, and if you’re a picture buyer they have a little service called “Image Email Request”: describe the kinds of pictures you need, Stock Index blasts your request out to their picture library contacts, and next thing you know, you start receiving pictures that look amazingly like what you’re after…cool!

JEFF BECK
A guitar player? Yeah, a guitar player! You like music, don’t you? Well, Jeff Beck has had a long and storied career, stretching from being part of the Yardbirds in the 60s to his induction as a solo artist into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame this spring. I love Beck’s Yardbirds mates Eric Clapton & Jimmy Page, but for sheer inventiveness and sonic soundscapes I’ll take Jeff any time. It’s pretty hard to find uniqueness in this over-processed, homogenized and corporate-shaped world, but Beck is truly one-of-a-kind. I was lucky enough to see him play in Milwaukee just a couple of weeks after the Hall of Fame event, and it was a drop-dead killer show. You can get a great feel for the man, his music and his top-notch band with the new DVD “Performing This Week…Live at Ronnie Scott’s.” Highly recommended!!!
